When the pandemic arrived, like so many bands, we were unable to get together to work on new songs. Partly as a technical experiment – and partly as a way of keeping our creative relationship going – we came up with a way of recording remotely. We chose a couple of songs from our unloved (by us) 2012 album ‘Staring at the sound’ to see if we could improve on the originals. The new versions were so much better that we did some more, and then some more… Over the course of that difficult period we completed new versions of six of the songs, with no real idea of where we were heading. Were we collecting songs for b-sides and compilations? Somewhere along the line Lee Grimshaw heard them with fresh ears and suggested they deserved a proper release, regardless of whether they were re-recordings. His Spinout Nuggets label would be the ideal vehicle… We decided to put the songs on a relatively unused format – the 12″ 45rpm mini-album for maximum fidelity and volume. Now available on a very limited 300 copy pressing, it’s time to revisit and re-evaluate songs that deserved better  in 2012 – and eventually got it in 2021!

Listening to the colours – mini album.
