Sounds Incarcerated: the noise made when two married musicians are unable to record or perform with their regular band… With The Galileo 7 on pandemic hiatus – like every other band in the world – Mister Unswitchable’s semi-regular online themed cover version events gave us and many local musicians a chance to record some unexpected and sometimes out of character songs, with accompanying videos, to entertain ourselves and each other. The theme rules challenged participants to attempt songs that might be outside of their musical comfort zone, come up with decent versions of personal favourites or sometimes bend an odd choice of song into shape. Our attempts vary from respecting the original version to moulding them to what might be called the characteristic sound of our band, and at least one of them may be considered a travesty by some… We’ll leave you to guess which! The range of artists we’ve covered here ranges from Buzzcocks to John Denver, via Haircut 100 and The Stranglers…
Two of these cuts were briefly available on a very limited-edition lathe-cut single during the summer of 2020, but all of them have been remixed and mastered specially for this release.
When this difficult period is consigned to the status of a fading shared nightmare, we hope that this collection can still be enjoyed as a decent set of cover versions. Who knows, maybe it might even induce a rare example of pandemic nostalgia!
